Dr Patterson is the Consulting Psychiatrist for the Ordination Process in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta

Welcome to our website! Here you will find information about the kinds of mental health services we offer from our counseling, psychiatry and pyschotherapy offices in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, our professional backgrounds, our theoretical orientations, and our practice beliefs.

Nurse InsigniaMD Caduces InsigniaEleanor Brower is a clinical psychologist, a registered nurse and, a former mental health nurse-practitioner.  Her husband and colleague, Scott Patterson, MD, is a psychiatrist.  In their practice, they offer individual psychotherapy, relationship counseling, group psychotherapy, supervision for other mental health professionals, medication evaluation and treatment.  Psychological/psychiatric evaluations with appropriate referrals are also available.

Although they work primarily with an adult population, they also see late adolescents.

Treatment Philosophy

Grounded in the conviction that the doctor-patient relationship is a pivotal factor in the outcome of psychotherapy (which is substantiated by much research), both of us work from a psychodynamic perspective.  Placing this relationship at the center of our work, we work with individuals and/or couples facing relational problems, life conflicts, and developmental issues (e.g., difficulties that are the result of difficult childhoods and past relationships or experiences).  We also treat individuals who are vulnerable to the impact of biologically-driven mental illnesses.

Young CoupleMore specifically, we work with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, grief, and loss, relationship problems (with self or other), unsettling life changes, substance abuse problems, and the emotional impact of physical illnesses in oneself or a loved one. We have provided on the PRACTICE page of this site more details describing our work with each of these matters.

The past is constantly playing itself out in current relationships---with spouses, partners, friends, and colleagues. That is why we often my find ourselves in a bad relational space with another. We may have words with another, have a fight with someone important to us, and, later, feel like it was an emotional replay of some painful part of our childhoods. Psychodynamic psychotherapy strives to help us heal from these past emotional wounds ... by understanding them (with our hearts as well as our heads), therefore, enabling us to make better choices in our current lives and to achieve more harmony with our important others.

Health Plan Participation

Although most of our patients are self-pay, we accept Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO on assignment. If you are with any other network, we encourage you to ask for assistance in filing your claim, if necessary. We will work with your financial situation, if needed, and we accept cash, check, and most major credit cards.

Please call or email for more details. Our contact information can be found by clicking here.
